Precision Buffing & Polishing of Automotive Components: Aluminum Fuel Rails

The aluminum fuel rails shown here were designed for an automotive racing application. Composed of aluminum, their initial finish was a dull gray, which the manufacturer thought not very attractive for a racing application. Appearance was not the only reason that we were contracted to buff these components, the #8 mirror bright finish also resists pitting and corrosion, and is easy to clean, extending the life of this product.

The rails, which measure 14" in length, required a two-step buffing process to reach the desired finish. The first step consisted of buffing with a sisal compound, this aggressive process smoothed out all of the major imperfections to the surface. The finish buff was accomplished with color buffing; this is where the mirror finish was achieved. At H&H we take quality seriously, each finished component was subject to profilemeter testing to ensure that the desired finish was achieved, every time.
